I am 5 months pregnant and I saved this video to watch it later since you posted in July and planned to watch it whenever I was ready. I was a little nervous about it, but I would rather be prepared than not know what is going on while giving birth. So thank you for your lovely humor and honesty, no sugar coating it, and you gave great info. This will be so helpful to me. Thank you!

Man, I had an epidural only for about an hour before I pushed because after I got it I FINALLY dilated from a 6 to a 10 in an hour (after 24 hours of labor at a 6 blech), and I still felt pain with every push it was terrible, something must have gone wrong with my epidural :/.

My baby also ended up in the NICU with an infection, pregnant with #2 hoping for no NICU this time 🤞.

I feel like the postpartum pain you were experiencing was from rushing your body to give birth. I went natural and never had any pain after.

I had my first with the full epidural and drugs. 5 hour labor. Hated it. I was so doped up, I don't remember any of it. My second, I went all natural. 6 hour labor, best decision I ever made. No tearing cause you have time to prepare instead of your body being forced to deliver then and there. I was up and walking and feeling great an hour later, no joke.

I had no epidural and I will say that pushing wasn’t really that painful. It was tiring and it was honestly relieving because with each contraction I wasn’t focused on the pain anymore, I was focused on the pushing and it meant it was all almost over 😂

Pooping for weeks after birth scared me more than the labor and birth itself lol. I had a fourth degree tear, so that possibly made matters even worse for me. I would almost be in tears at the thought of going.

I'm a little surprised she didn't mention how the nurses come in the room while you're recovering and press on your stomach to get more of the blood out. VERY painful and one of the things I don't like about childbirth. I had an epidural for my first one, but my second one was ALL natural. I don't recommend it. It was the middle of the night and 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital, she was born. No time or a chance to get an epidural T^T I was cut both times and the second time around my BF almost passed out! LOL

Where I am the OBGYN we see throughout our pregnancies, are always the doctor that delivers the baby. W/ all 3 of mine they would page the Dr. once I was like 8 cm dilated and they'd be there by the time it was time to push. Unless there were to be some serious emergency for them or of me, and they couldn't wait for her to get there. Otherwise it's your Dr. However when I had my 2nd it was so fast she almost didn't make it there on time so another random Dr from the hospital was standing in. I think they should do that everywhere. It's important to have that trust and familiarity when you're going through labor. Now they did have 3 Dr.'s @ the Dr. office that you had to meet with at least one time with each of them. and they only take vacation one doctor at a time so that way they'll definitely will be one of the familiar doctors there to deliver.

I have a 10 year old and your birthing experience was very similar to mine. I wasn’t lucky to have a nice doctor, until I requested someone else I had an episiotomy that required so many stitches, that I waited three months to be intimate again. And now...I have a baby due next month. 😩 I will say that each birth is different; the first is always the longest and usually the most difficult, so that’s good.

                                            Kinda long but...

So my mom was in the hospital, and I was r e a d y. My mom called the nurse, and she was like “We’re gonna do some practice pushes, mmkay?” So my mom decided to push, and the nurse yelled and I was literally coming out. She immediately called the doctor, and he arrived 20 minutes later. He was yelling at the nurse, yelling that they should’ve called earlier. Then he turned to my mom and said in the sweetest voice, “Okay, are you ready?”

So he stood there, and told my mom to push. She did, and the doc yelled at her. Turns out, my umbilical cord was wrapped around my throat. He had to unwrap it, and my mother pushed once more and out I shot. BUT WAIT, THeres more! I pooped inside of my mother. Yes you read that right. So, my mom didn’t get to hold me for a few minutes because they had to clear my lungs just in case I had INHALED my feces. Luckily, my grandma was/is a respiratory therapist, so she did that for me!

After that long experience, I was there. My mother, a mere 20 years old, got her life on track and got married to my dad and had my sister. Now, I have a stepdad and a new sister. My other sisters were c-sections, so that’s fun.

Omg lmao. If you've had a level 3/4 tear, you'd appreciate the aloe vera gel infused ice pack on your lady bits. Like mine hurt so bad as a first time mom. Ice, aloe vera ice pack, and the nice spray they give you was the only way I could be comfortable.

I thankfully had a very easy labor and delivery and didn't need an epidural, and honestly the contractions were way worse then pushing out the baby, even with no pain relief and a second degree tear! Also I only pushed 9 times and he was born, I think not having an epidural actually makes pushing go better since you can feel whats going on! But I totally understand if u need an epidural, giving birth is not for the fainthearted!

This all just cements some of the reasons I don't want kids (other than the fact it's just not my personality at all). This is all very important information to know, and I think it needs to be taught in sex ed.
