I think its great when creators include sponsorships in their videos, or else they might not be able to create as much as they would like and I think it's a bit selfish when people say someone's just in it for the money like first off that person needs money to survive just like everyone else and they're doing it in the way that they can and secondly if you were to watch tv you would have to sit through like 15 minutes worth of ads for one 30 minute episode so I don't think it's fair for people to be upset at someone mentioning products in their video because not only does the creator need to be paid and it doesn't even take that much time from you but the company also needs sponsorships to promote themselves.

In my opinion as long the ads is about something that the “influencer” genuinely likes then I don’t se problem with it

I like the adds because some of them I like and it gives me something else to do while I listen to it. I like your meals but not the onions. What camera do you have and what is your favorite?

you could start a patreon! some podcasts that i support on patreon release their episodes early and ad-free to their patrons in addition to their regular advertised episodes for free listeners

with sponsorships i don't really mind like you guys need to make your coin somehow! it has to be something though that the person promoting it is actually interested in or it really shows that they're like a "sell out" or whatever. I personally prefer the shorter type or the type where its something that would be genuinely included anyway like a haul video or something like that :)

I guess the difference with sponsored content on YouTube vs podcasts, is we get ads on YouTube which more often than not we have to sit through, and then if most of your videos have a sponsor we also have to sit through that. It’s just a lot of ads for a relatively short amount of time. Sponsored content is fine, but when it’s every video it gets a little annoying, when we also have the YouTube ads on top of it.

Have zero problems with sponsorships as long as they're fully disclosed, but I agree with what seems like most of the comments here; I definitely prefer "mentions" to fully sponsored videos. Routines/favorites/etc just don't seem legit. I'll let them autoplay but I never go out of my way to watch them.

Most sponsored videos are super annoying and feel fake. I’ll usually turn the video off. Some you tubers are able to keep it real and still have a sponsored video. But very few.

Given the vast amount of sponsored content, its hard to trust whether the reviews are genuine especially when its someones way of making an income. They have a monetary incentive to promote which often outweighs giving a genuine review of the product and saying "hey this wasnt a good product for me because of xyz" the reviews are very fabricated.

A solution: you can set up a patreon account, where your subscribers can give $1 or more in return for ad free content esp. for your podcasts.

Personally, the biggest problem with influencer advertising (both on youtube and instagram/other social media platforms) is when it isn't disclosed properly. Obviously, it is how many influences making a living and it should continue. However, I think it's unethical not to have proper information in the title/description/body of the video about whether a product has been sponsored or not (similar to when product reviews on TV ads don't disclose whether they are paid actors or users of the product). Viewers trust the opinions of influencers so it is important to know whether a product is just something you like or if it is a sponsorship (or both). Wanted to wrap up by saying you're generally awesome at disclosing sponsorships etc, but it is not standard and Youtube/instagram should probably put in place guidelines for sponsorship disclosure.

I don't know if this is going to be an unpopular opinion or not, or if I am off base or something but, in my opinion, this is your business. It's your livelihood. It's what you and youtubers in general have chosen to use as a means to take care of your responsibilities, live life, and run a business. Ads and Sponsorships help you to continue creating the content that we love, are entertained by and get information from. That's not to say that it isn't important to be watchful over if you are getting to a place that's not really honest like you don't use the product on a regular basis or you have to stretch the truth about what you think about the product. But I've never gotten that impression from you. You seem very genuine and the things you talk about you seem to genuinely love.

I do think that a balance is important. You need revenue to keep a business alive but at the same time, you need new viewers to turn over to consistent viewers and also keep your retention up so that you can scale so that you can keep that stream of revenue working. Dedicated videos probably can scare people away especially if they are overdone. That is something that needs to be taken with a grain of salt because if you are honest and transparent about the sponsorship, there shouldn't be a problem. I mean, we come with the understanding that this isn't TV. We can skip over adds and 30 second sponsored parts of videos, go to a different video, or just enjoy the content around that sponsorship. We can also do our own research.

Personally, I've come to trust you and I know I can do the research on the company you're talking about myself so if I end up not liking it, it's not a reflection on you but a personal preference. I would trust your opinion (specifically) more than I would ads from a TV channel.

As long as you Believe in the product you are promoting and are HONEST about the reviews I do not mind I actually like it because it informs me about products I am interested in. Yeah I get some of them are long but I just skip through them :)

I would like to know what she thinks is an ideal diet to follow! My thesis looks at the authority given to western biomedicine over alternative, Eastern medical systems (I’m focussing on traditional Chinese medicine), but it’s interesting how our political economy supports/favours western medicine over holistic health systems despite the popularity of alternative medicines and the historic/cultural significance of different modalities of health and well-being.

I remember reading that you make way way more money if its a dedicated video, and honestly I think it is a win win for us too if you put the company sponsoring the video in the title! ETC if it's a haul for Express, put in the title that it's an Express haul. Makes it easier for interested people to find that content. Also, that way they don't ruin the trust you build through the vlogs and this "authentic content" won't keep being abruptly broken up by ads (etc your recent video with VS PINK where you showed a different VS PINK outfit 4 times). I find that a lot of disingenuous than a dedicated video! For example, that VS PINK stuff could have been much better executed in a "haul" video, where once I see it is for VS PINK (which I personally don't wear), I can just chose to not watch the video. That's just my take though, clearly there are others who think differently! I will watch you regardless :)

If it's something I'll never use then I don't really listen, but I will buy things because they're recommended on youtube or podcasts. Like, I kept hearing about fabfitfun and then a couple friends said they had it and loved it so I ended up trying it, and I love it! In the part about ads, I get it. You have to make money, but you can’t say it’s like a commercial break since youtubers put 3-4 ads in each video on top of sponsorships. Yes, we don’t have to pay to watch your content, but you’re also getting paid when we do watch it. I don’t think it’s fair to say we are entitled. It’s entitled to assume support from subscribers no matter how many sponsorships are pushed. When you have 4 ad breaks in a video on top of a 30 second sponsorship, it can be frustrating to pick through a video for the “real” content.

Something I’m not a fan of is when influencers promote things that contradict each other. For example, some YouTubers promote natural deodorant and talk about how amazing it is and how it’s important to take care of your body and then a few posts later, they have a sponsored post for secret deodorant which has all these chemicals, aluminum, etc. I just feel like it makes viewers not trust the influencer as much since it shows they clearly don’t always stand by what they are promoting. I hope that makes sense!

For example I really do not care at all when Natalie does any sponsored content bc not ALL her content is sponsored if she thinks a video will help her audience or be fun to whatch she will make it with it without a sponsor and she shares so much of her life that I trust her that she wouldn’t accept being sponsored by bullshit companies that’s why I whatch her I love that I don’t feel like she’s only doing YouTube for sponsorships I hate and have unfollowed a lot of influencers that have “made it” and every single video is sponsored and they act super entitled when people complain about it

I personally don’t mind at all, what bothers me is a- never posts but when they do, it’s sponsored b- a “routine” of some sort utilizing this new product (unless it actually, genuinely is part of your routine), c- when someone is passionate about a product and actually excited and says “I actually genuinely, really do love this product” because it just makes it sound like the 10 sponsorships before that one were all inauthentic you know what I mean? Like you should feel that way about every sponsorship? or d- people who do sponsored posts on things we KNOW they don’t use. E.g., doing a fit bit watch ad when I know you use an Apple Watch and will continue to use and prefer your Apple watch after the sponsored video(s) are over, or advertising google pixel when you have and will always have an iPhone. So just stuff like that. Basically just obvious inauthenticity. Anything authentic, 10/10
